San Francisco (Nike Women's Marathon)

Thanks to Thien and her friend at Yurbuds, we had the amazing opportunity to run as sponsored entries for the Nike Women's Marathon. Though we only had a month to train, it took Thien all of 10 minutes to convince us to jump onboard and register. We spent a lot of our time running and recovering from the race, but luckily had a couple of days to enjoy the city and its sites.

Our Itinerary

Day 1:
  • Arrived in San Francisco
  • Check-in (AirBNB)
  • Lunch in Central Sunset District with an old college friend.
  • Shop around at Union Square
  • Nike Expo to pick up race materials. This is where you can buy a shuttle ticket that will take you from the finish line (which is in the middle of nowhere) back into the city- I highly recommend you do this as getting a cab to drive out there on the day of the race is impossible.
  • Curry dinner @ Kare-ken
Day 2:
  • Philz. Best coffee pour over of my life- definitely visit.
  • Brunch at Mama's. Thankfully, we took shifts waiting in line while exploring Coit Tower and sampling focaccia from Liguria Bakery (delicious) in pairs. Otherwise, it wasn't worth the long wait.
  • Pier 39
  • Lunch @ Boudin's
  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • Sutro Baths (gorgeous and worth the trek- you can see an amazing view of colors from the field with the coastline as the backdrop)
  • Dinner @ Thanh Long. So very good-I still think about our dinner of garlic noodles and crabs from time to time.
Day 3:
  • The Race (if they are offering free post-race massages, get one! They help with the muscle recovery.)
  • Italian dinner @ Aperto.
Day 4:
  • Dim Sum
  • Alamo Square Park to see the painted ladies
  • Catch our flights back to Boston

Thanks, Daniel, for such a great opportunity!
